Source policy
Everything in Spotrep comes from open sources, and every photo is used under a licence that allows it.
Photos
- We only use photos under licences that allow commercial use: public domain, CC0, CC BY and CC BY-SA. Never “non-commercial” or “no derivatives” licences.
- Most photos come from Wikimedia Commons. Each one keeps its author, licence and a link to the original, shown after every round and on the image credits page.
- Photos are resized and converted, and their metadata (including any location data) is removed. Where a licence requires it, changed versions are shared under the same licence.
- Every photo is checked by a person before it’s used in a game. Photos with a caption or sign that gives away the answer are left out.
- The field guide uses separate photos from the game, so it can’t be used to look up answers.
Facts
- Names, origins, users and service dates are compiled from open sources such as public reference works, manufacturers’ material and official publications. Each model page says whether an editor has checked its facts yet, and lists the sources when one has.
- We don’t use classified, leaked or restricted material, and we don’t accept it if it’s sent to us.
- Spotrep is for learning. It isn’t official identification guidance and may contain mistakes.
Corrections and removal
If a fact is wrong, use “Report a problem” after a round or “Suggest a correction” on the model’s page in the field guide. If you took a photo we use and want the credit changed or the photo removed, contact us through “Suggest a correction” on the model’s page, and we’ll act on it promptly.
